Rancher Dave's Hobbies

Rancher Dave isn't all about work all day and no play. That would lead to a sad life. Thus, Rancher Dave likes to have fun and knows how to do it. Often in a grand way.

Non Volunteering Hobbies

What does Rancher Dave like to do outside of working and chatting about cruising or travel?

Rancher Dave enjoys using technology to have fun. One of the realms where that can take place is with Christmas Lights. Rancher Dave with his family and neighbors creates the DDV Christmas Light Spectacular. This light show incorporates Christmas music and a nearly 100% all LED lights to create a show where the lights dance to the Christmas music. The music is transmitted over a very low power radio station so it can be heard by those in cars who choose to tune in. The radius for the music is a couple blocks in either direction.

Volunteering (not a hobby per se' but it could fall into that classification)

Rancher Dave spends more than a full day each month (on average) working on various volunteer projects. They mostly focus around missions work thru the church as well as disaster relief efforts. This all involves helping others.

David is a member of TACCOR (Texas Annual Conference Committee on Relief) in a leadership position helping shape how we respond to natural disasters in our geographical area. David is a District Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Central South District where he works with all churches in the district to facilitate Early Responder Team (ERT) training as well as responses within the district and by district teams and ERT members to other areas around the state and USA.

David also heads the ERT and Disaster Relief efforts at First Methodist Houston. He recently assisted a fellow TACCOR member help families in an area affected by wild fires get a start on their family recovery efforts after losing everything they owned in these fires. Coordinating these efforts feels good, but can be very time consuming. This is all time donated that takes away from time working on his own companies and time with his family.
